“Skyscraper” isn’t the most original nickname in the world, but how many truly unique ones are there anymore? Even “The Ho Bag” is taken now. Google it. Stefan “Skyscraper” Struve is an up-and-coming UFC heavyweight who stands 6’11 and is the tender age of 22. He’s barely old enough to drink in this country, but he already has nearly 30 professional fights and a history of finishing his opponents. Talk about earning your salt young. Struve started training in mixed martial arts at age 14 when his brother invited him to a training session, put him in a kimura, and made him cry uncle. He’s been pissed ever since. Up to that point he had only watched fight DVDs and bounced drunks out of bars (Hey…it’s the Netherlands. Blame Bas Rutten), so he didn’t stand a chance. Now he’s a professional fighter and his brothers have stopped messing with him for some strange reason. Struve’s first professional fight came at the age of 17 and he has been competing ever since…a whole five years now. His most memorable moment of his short career was a second round rear-naked choke against Denis Stojnic at UFC 99. No one thought a guy nearly seven feet tall could pull off a slick submission, so it was an especially sweet moment. In his youth, Struve played soccer so he watched the 2010 World Cup with anxious anticipation only to be disappointed when the Netherlands lost the finals to Spain. He immediately went out and beat the crap out of Christian Morecraft at UFC 117. Struve splits his time living and training in both the U.S. and the Netherlands. His frequent flyer miles account is ridiculous.
