Kamal Shalorus

Kamal “The Prince of Persia” Shalorus doesn’t know the exact day he was born because birth records in poor northern Iranian villages are hard to come by in the 1970’s and 80’s. All he really knows about his childhood is that he’s glad it’s over. Kamal is a survivor. He was raised in poverty in northern Iran and only got out when he learned to wrestle and became good at it. Making his way to England, Kamal was a qualifier for the Olympic team and afterward immigrated to the United States where he began training in mixed martial arts in Austin Texas with Phil Cardella. Kamal started fighting in April, 2008 in regional Texas-based shows and went 4-0-1 before getting the attention of the WEC. He made his WEC debut in November, 2009 and went 3-0-1 over the next year against some of the organizations best lightweights including Jamie Varner and Bart Palaszewski. Today Kamal Shalorus is a highly respected UFC lightweight who still looks to his difficult upbringing in Iran as helping shape him into the person he is today.
