Danny started wrestling in high school. After he graduated from high school, he attended Menlo College and became an NAIA All American in 2004.Danny made his professional debut in November 2007, fighting twice in the one month, winning both fights by first round submission. After going 3-0, Castillo signed to fight on the Palace Fighting Championship’s seventh card. He fought Andy Salazar winning by submission. Danny won his fifth straight fight after defeating Strikeforce veteran, Isaiah Hill. With that win, Danny signed to fight in the WEC. He made his WEC debut against fight Donald Cerrone at WEC 34, losing by first round submission. Danny then fought Rafael Dias at WEC36 and won by TKO. Four months later Danny fought Phil Cardella at WEC 39. He won that fight by split decision. Danny then defeated Ricardo Lamas by TKO. That was he’s third straight win in the WEC. Danny then lost his next two fights to Shane Roller and Anthony Pettis but then bounced back by defeating Dustin Poirier by decision. He last fight in the WEC was against Will Kerr and he won by KO in the first round. After that he was signed to the UFC as a part of WEC/UFC merger. As part of the merger, all WEC fighters were transferred to the UFC.

On December 31, 2010, Danny officially became a contracted UFC fighter, signing a four fight deal with the promotion. In his UFC debut, Danny fought Joe Stevenson on March 3, 2011 winning a unanimous decision. Then Danny fought Jacob Volkmann, he lost by unanimous decision. Danny next fight was against Shamar Bailey at UFC 139. He defeated Bailey by TKO in the first round. His next fight was at UFC 141 against Anthony Njokuani, Danny won by split decision. He took the Njokuani fight on only 5 week’s notice. Danny’s next fight in the UFC was against John Cholish, he defeated Cholish by unanimous decision.
